South African cyclist S’annara Grove faces provisional ban after positive doping test

S’annara Grove, a South African rider, has been provisionally suspended following an adverse doping result for ipamorelin.

The International Testing Agency reported that South African cyclist S’annara Grove received a provisional suspension after her July 28 sample from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games tested positive for ipamorelin, a synthetic peptide banned in competition. Ipamorelin is classified as a growth-hormone-stimulating substance. Grove, 32, rides for the Smurfit Westrock squad and is slated to compete in the ongoing Tour of Britain, where the third stage took place on Friday.

She did not secure a medal in her track cycling events at the Commonwealth Games and has not issued a public comment on the suspension. Both the Smurfit Westrock and South Africa teams have been contacted for comment. Grove had been set to represent South Africa at the road world championships in Montreal.

Why it matters

The suspension highlights ongoing anti-doping enforcement in international cycling and could affect Grove’s upcoming races.
