South African farm attack survivor describes brutal home invasion and U.S. visa response

In August 2023, Amanda Platt and her husband Tim were awakened by a home invasion in which several men entered their farm house, shouting anti-white slogans and assaulting Platt with a crowbar and a spear. She fought back for about an hour before being overpowered, but local farmers assisted her and the intruders were eventually arrested. Platt asserted that the attackers act with implicit permission from the South African government and cited the “Kill the Boer” chant as evidence of incitement.

She expressed gratitude for recent U.S. State Department measures that restrict visas for South Africans implicated in farm attacks, describing the policy as a positive step. The visa restrictions were announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and supported by Deputy Assistant Secretary Samuel Samson, who framed the violence as a broader regional concern.
