South Korea and Poland to deepen army cooperation and joint drills

South Korea’s Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Kim Gyu-ha, spent three days in Poland meeting senior Polish military leaders, including Gen. Wieslaw Kukula and Lt. Gen. Marek Sokolowski. The discussions produced an agreement to establish a regular bilateral consultative mechanism between the two armies and to scale up high-level exchanges, combined training exercises, and defence-industry collaboration. Emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector.

Kim highlighted the importance of building mutual trust through joint projects and shared education and training to ensure reliable operation of weapons systems. Poland is a major European customer of South Korean land-system hardware, fielding K2 main battle tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers and Chunmoo multiple-rocket launchers. Both sides expect the enhanced partnership to strengthen security ties and support ongoing procurement.
