South Korea's KUIC receives sovereign-linked credit ratings from Moody's and S&P

The Korea-U.S. Strategic Investment Corporation was assigned an Aa2 rating by Moody's and an AA rating by S&P, both with stable outlooks.

Global rating agencies have now matched the credit quality of the Korea-U.S. Strategic Investment Corporation (KUIC) to that of South Korea’s sovereign rating. Moody's assigned an Aa2 issuer rating with a stable outlook, while S&P granted a long-term AA rating, also stable. Both agencies cited the Korean government's high willingness and ability to provide timely support, noting the country's ample financial reserves and strong creditworthiness.

KUIC, created to implement Seoul's $350 billion investment pledge to the United States, launched in June after legislative approval earlier this year. The new ratings are expected to enhance the corporation’s credibility and facilitate stable funding for projects ranging from shipbuilding to other strategic sectors.

Why it matters

The ratings link KUIC’s financing costs to South Korea’s strong sovereign credit, aiding the $350 billion U.S. investment plan.
