South Korea's men and women clinch opening wins in Asian Games field hockey

In the opening round of the Asian Games, South Korea's men's field hockey team opened Pool A with a 5-0 triumph over Bangladesh at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, scoring once each through Sim Jae-won, Lee Gang-san, Oh Se-yong, Bae Soung-min and Yang Ji-hun. Coach Min Tae-seok explained the team focused on solid defence early before turning aggressive in the second quarter. A mishap saw the North Korean anthem played before the South Korean one, prompting a delayed start and a quick handshake before the music finished.

Later, the women's team beat Chinese Taipei 3-1, with Park Seung-ae netting twice and An Su-jin adding another goal. The victories echo South Korea's podium finishes at the 2023 Games and set up next matches against Indonesia and Kazakhstan.
