South Korea's regulator pledges stronger policy push to boost capital market globally
Financial Services Commission chairman Lee Eog-weon said the regulator will intensify policy support to raise the global standing of South Korea’s capital market during Korea Premium Weeks 2026.
At the Korea Premium Weeks 2026 investor-relations session in Seoul, Financial Services Commission chairman Lee Eog-weon announced that the regulator and capital-market institutions will redouble their commitment to lift the global stature of South Korea’s equity market through steadfast policy backing. Lee highlighted that the market’s record-year gains and expanded market capitalization already signal an elevated status.
He confirmed that the government will persist with the scheduled market-reform agenda and promote the domestic market abroad. The three-week program, organized jointly with the Korea Exchange, will host 55 listed firms and bring together experts and officials to assess the impact of recent reforms, discuss future policy directions, and examine corporate-governance improvements. Participants will also explore structural innovations, including extended trading sessions and a shorter T+1 settlement cycle, aimed at modernising market infrastructure.
