South Korea to invest 410 billion won in regional airports to boost tourism
South Korea will spend 410 billion won next year on five tourism zones centered on regional airports, aiming for 5 million international visitors by 2029.
The South Korean government intends to invest 410 billion won in 2025 to build five major tourism corridors around regional airports in Busan, Daegu, Cheongju, Yangyang and Muan. Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il said the strategy targets 5 million international arrivals across these zones by 2029, seeking to shift visitor traffic away from Seoul. Funding will support 27 projects across eight ministries, focusing on better connectivity, upgraded facilities, AI tools for transport and language assistance, and expanded QR-code payment acceptance.
A parallel program will simplify visa procedures for medical and wellness travelers in the first half of next year. The initiative is part of a broader effort to grow the service sector alongside the semiconductor industry.
