South Korean defence minister visits Croatia to seal Chunmoo rocket launcher deal

Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back will travel to Croatia this week to meet Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and attend the signing of a Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher export contract with Hanwha Aerospace.

South Korea’s defence minister, Ahn Gyu-back, is set to fly to Croatia on Wednesday for a three-day diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening bilateral defence ties. During the visit he will meet Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and attend a signing event for Hanwha Aerospace Co.’s Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers, marking the first South Korean weapons sale to Croatia and the country’s fourth European customer after Poland, Estonia and Norway.

The Chunmoo system, designed to counter long-range artillery threats, can strike targets up to 80 kilometres away with precision or cluster munitions. Officials said the trip will also be used to promote South Korea’s broader defence industry strengths and to negotiate a memorandum of understanding that will create a framework for deeper cooperation. Discussions are expected to cover joint efforts to promote stability in both the Korean Peninsula and Europe.
