South Korean PM assures U.S. firms of no nationality-based bias amid trade talks
Prime Minister Han Seong-sook told an AMCHAM meeting that South Korea does not discriminate against foreign companies and will address any regulatory concerns.
At an AMCHAM event in Seoul, Prime Minister Han Seong-sook affirmed that South Korea’s policies do not favor or penalize companies based on nationality, responding to worries from U.S. businesses. She pledged to relay specific issues raised by foreign firms to the appropriate ministries and cited three regulatory areas currently under presidential committee review. Han, a former Naver CEO, drew on her tech background to reassure American tech firms such as Coupang of fair treatment.
She added that the bilateral tariff talks are advancing smoothly, building on a prior deal that earmarked $350 billion in U.S. investments, including a $150 billion shipbuilding component. The minister stressed the importance of private-sector collaboration and positioned AMCHAM as a bridge between Seoul and Washington.
