In a parliamentary questioning session, Prime Minister Han Seong-sook pledged to address the sharp fall in the government's popularity, noting the latest Realmeter poll shows President Lee Jae Myung's approval at just 33.8%, the lowest of his term. The poll, ordered by the EKN newspaper, marks nine consecutive weeks of decline, driven by negative views of Lee's cabinet selections, speculation about deploying forces to the Strait of Hormuz, and unclear real-estate policies.
Han said she is closely monitoring the public's voice and will work to improve the situation. The controversy deepened after gender equality minister candidate Yong Hye-in withdrew amid nepotism allegations and plans to keep her proportional-representation seat. Justice minister nominee Kim Seung-won is also facing a lobbying scandal, adding further pressure on the administration.
