South Korean prosecutors demand renewed probe into fatal mismatched blood transfusion
Prosecutors in Seoul have asked police to reopen the investigation into a woman who died after receiving the wrong blood type at a university hospital in 2024.
The Seoul Northern District Prosecutors’ Office instructed Seongbuk Police to conduct further inquiries, saying additional facts are needed before the case can be closed. The patient, in her 50s, was rushed to the emergency department after a cardiac arrest in September 2024 and was given type A blood despite being type O. Police had previously closed the case without filing charges. Authorities now plan to restart the investigation.
