South London teen turns Lego resale hobby into $400,000-plus annual business

Jamie Bell, an 18-year-old student from South London, founded JTB Collectables to trade second-hand Lego through eBay, achieving annual sales exceeding $400,000 and net profit close to $68,000 after expenses. Starting at 13, he identified a niche for supplying large Lego collections to smaller traders who could break them down for individual sales. By age 15 he was regularly moving bulk lots, prompting the hire of an accountant.

Today he sells roughly 220 lb of Lego each month, dividing stock between mixed bulk lots and rare items sold directly to collectors. In May 2026, an auction of 200 lb of Star Wars minifigures attracted 65 bids and sold for over $30,000. Most inventory is kept in cardboard boxes on the floor of his parents' house, with his father helping with packing and administration, while Bell oversees the business. He plans to study history at university and use the earnings to save for a home.
