South Moravian Senate races feature shifting candidacies and regional priority pledges
Senate contests in the South Moravian Region see incumbents reshuffling districts and new candidates focusing on transport, health care and student housing.
The 2026 Senate elections in South Moravia involve notable candidate reshuffles. In the Vyškov constituency, current senator Karel Zitterbart of STAN has transferred his campaign to Brno, reacting to governor Jan Grolich’s (KDU-ČSL) ambition to enter national politics. ANO substituted its original contender with nurse Petra Absolonová, while Přísaha fields mayor Jaroslav Fládr. In Brno’s district, former ODS senator Zdeněk Papoušek aims to retain his seat, competing with former hospital director Jaroslav Štěrba (ANO), student-housing advocate Klára Alžběta Samková (Stačilo!), and SPD’s Jaroslav Turánek.
The Znojmo district sees incumbent Tomáš Třetina (TOP 09) challenged by candidates from ANO, Stačilo!, Přísaha, independent businessman Jindřich Růžička and Hlas regionů’s Bohumila Beranová. Across the races, transport bottlenecks, hospital network coordination, student accommodation and regional funding are the dominant campaign themes.
Why it matters
Voters will decide which regional leaders can shape national legislation on transport, health and education.
