The 18 charges, filed at Plymouth Magistrates Court, cover illegal sewage releases at five sites in Cornwall - Bodmin, Harlyn, Playing Place and Polperro - and one in Plymouth, Devon, between 2015 and 2021. Seventeen counts relate to unlawful discharges, while a single count concerns the company's neglect to take reasonable remedial steps after a sewage pumping-station failure.
The water firm previously described the matters as historic and said it had made significant investments since then. The fine reflects the seriousness of repeated environmental breaches over six years.
