Southeast Asia digital sales projected to hit $368 billion in 2026
The e-Conomy SEA 2026 report forecasts a 17% rise in the region’s digital sales volume to $368 billion for 2026.
A new e-Conomy SEA 2026 report, compiled by Google, Bain & Company and state investor Temasek, projects that Southeast Asia’s total digital sales will increase by 17% to $368 billion in 2026. The study predicts the gross merchandise value of goods and services sold through digital platforms will keep growing at about 13% per year, reaching $1.14 trillion by 2035. While private-equity deals fell by 28.4% in 2025, the region attracted $21 billion in funding during the first half of 2026, up from $11 billion for the whole of 2025, largely due to two large data-centre contracts of $11 billion and $5 billion.
Data-centre capacity expanded to 5.8 GW by mid-2026, compared with 4.0 GW at the end of the previous year. The report also notes that AI adoption in Southeast Asia remains low, at 5 million tokens per capita, far behind the United States and Europe. IPO proceeds in the region climbed to $8.5 billion over the twelve months to June 30 2026, more than double the prior period, driven by listings in Singapore and Malaysia.
Why it matters
The forecast signals rapid growth in Southeast Asia’s digital economy, influencing investors, policymakers and tech firms.
