Southern Norway braces for heavy rain, strong winds and 8-metre waves on Sunday

Meteorologist Sigrid Marie Vildskog Auganæs warns that southern Norway will face heavy rain, strong winds and waves up to eight metres on Sunday, urging people to cancel outdoor plans.

Meteorologist Sigrid Marie Vildskog Auganæs says a powerful low-pressure system will move into southern Norway on Sunday, delivering heavy rain and strong winds that could make outdoor plans unsafe. Oslo is slated to receive about 24 mm of precipitation, and coastal areas of Vestlandet and Sørlandet may face waves of roughly six metres, locally climbing to eight metres near Stad. Kristiansand could see wind speeds of up to 13 m/s. While the east coast expects its wettest period on Thursday and Friday, particularly in Vestfold and Telemark, the north anticipates calmer weather after a rainy week.

The Meteorological Institute may issue a weather warning if the situation deteriorates. Residents are urged to stay indoors and keep an eye on updates.

Why it matters

Severe weather could disrupt travel, damage property and pose safety risks for millions of residents.
