SP chief Akhilesh Yadav warns of fake votes, urges vigilance ahead of 2027 UP polls

Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of adding bogus entries and deleting genuine ones from voter lists, urging party workers to monitor booths before the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly election.

Speaking to party leaders at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party was colluding to tamper with voter lists by adding fictitious entries and removing authentic opposition voters ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He instructed SP workers to vigilantly guard their polling booths to prevent what he described as “vote theft and donation theft.”

Yadav questioned the Election Commission’s decision to conduct a Special Summary Revision (SSR) so soon after the costly Special Intensive Revision (SIR), suggesting the move could be exploited for partisan gain. He presented a case of a man named Vikas Yadav whose name appeared on twelve separate rolls, and said the party had deployed volunteers to help voters during the revision process. The speech also criticized the BJP state government for economic woes, land grabs and alleged bias against Dalit and minority communities, and warned that the BJP would not return to power after 2027.

Why it matters

Allegations of voter-list manipulation could undermine confidence in Uttar Pradesh’s upcoming election and affect India’s political landscape.
