SpaceX launches recruitment for natural-gas trading team to power its ventures
SpaceX announced a new position to lead a physical and financial natural-gas trading unit, aimed at securing fuel for its expanding operations.
SpaceX is hiring a senior trader to create and head a natural-gas trading operation that will handle both physical and financial market activities. This effort is tied to the company's strategy of vertically integrating energy supplies for its growing power needs, including a planned gas-fired power plant for a massive chip-making facility in Texas that it is building alongside Tesla. The firm also intends to develop its own gas pipelines and explore drilling opportunities, aiming to produce propellant for its Starship rockets, which run on super-cooled methane.
The vacancy indicates work locations at either Cape Canaveral, Florida, or Starbase, Texas, and explicitly excludes remote arrangements. Similar energy-trading moves have been noted at other tech giants such as Meta and OpenAI. SpaceX did not immediately comment on the hiring push.
Why it matters
Securing natural-gas supplies could lower costs and boost reliability for SpaceX's ambitious space and chip-manufacturing projects.
