SpaceX sues to keep Texas tax-break documents for massive semiconductor plant private

SpaceX has taken legal action in Texas to block the disclosure of tax-abatement paperwork and email exchanges related to its Terafab project, a 100-million-square-foot semiconductor plant being built near Houston in partnership with Tesla and Intel. The suit claims the materials reveal confidential negotiation strategies and could disadvantage the company in future dealings. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office had previously indicated the records were not exempt from public release, and they were originally requested by Grimes County residents Marie Egyed and Vanessa Burzynski under the state’s Public Information Act.

The dispute reflects broader criticism of secrecy in large AI infrastructure projects, with groups like Public Citizen highlighting extensive nondisclosure agreements and companies such as Microsoft promising greater openness. SpaceX has not commented, and a judge has yet to rule on the injunction.
