SpaceX unveils plan for a massive maritime hub on Louisiana’s Gulf Coast
SpaceX intends to build a large waterfront complex with docks, roads and cargo areas in Vermilion Parish, linking the Gulf of America to inland waterways.
According to a Louisiana project database, SpaceX plans to construct a vast industrial shipping hub on the Gulf Coast in Vermilion Parish. The design features roughly 3,500 feet of waterfront docking space, inland docking linked to existing channels, and about 15.5 miles of heavy-haul roads plus an elevated roadway. Extensive dredging would allow large ships to access the site, which could serve commercial maritime traffic as well as SpaceX’s own needs. The development is to be privately financed, and state agencies such as Louisiana Economic Development and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have not provided further details.
