Spain approves €6.6 million upgrade to complete A-7 Caleta de Velez junction

The Ministry of Transport announced final approval for the route plan and public-consultation file needed to complete the A-7 motorway junction at kilometre 951 on the eastern Costa del Sol. Following a provisional nod in September 2025, a 30-day consultation confirmed the land as public utility and triggered urgent land-occupation steps. The upgrade, budgeted at €6.6 million including VAT, will convert the existing partial junction into a full interchange by constructing an entrance onto the A-7 toward Almería and an exit for westbound traffic from Almería to Málaga.

Engineers will also build two roundabouts on either side of the motorway, connected by an underpass west of Caleta de Velez town centre. Velez-Málaga town hall says the finished junction will enhance access to the local fishing port and reduce congestion on the Velez-Málaga and Caleta corridor, especially during peak summer months. Publication in the Official State Bulletin is forthcoming, but the ministry has not set a tender schedule or construction start date.
