Spain issues recall for Casa de Castrelo egg whites after Salmonella detection
Spanish authorities have warned consumers to discard a specific batch of Casa de Castrelo pasteurised egg whites found contaminated with Salmonella.
AESAN released a food safety warning after regional health officials in Andalucía detected Salmonella in a particular batch (6265) of Casa de Castrelo pasteurised egg whites packaged in 500 ml refrigerated plastic bottles. The affected bottles carry a use-by date of 27 October 2026 and may have been distributed beyond Andalucía to other autonomous communities. The agency advises shoppers to check the brand, product description, batch number and date, and to discard any matching bottles regardless of appearance.
No specific supermarket chain or number of bottles has been disclosed, and no illnesses have been confirmed linked to this batch. Anyone who has consumed the product should monitor for diarrhoea, vomiting, fever or headache and consult a doctor if symptoms develop. The alert is a precautionary measure and does not indicate a wider outbreak.
Why it matters
Consumers need to avoid a potentially harmful food product and know the steps to take if they have been exposed.
