Spain raises regulated butane canister price to four-year high of €18.84

Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition announced that, from 15 September, the regulated maximum price for a standard 12.5 kg butane bombona will be €18.84, an increase of €1.01 or 4.96 % over the previous limit. The rise reflects higher costs for raw materials, transport and the impact of the euro’s exchange rate against the US dollar. A temporary reduction in the Hydrocarbons Tax was taken into account, preventing the calculated price of €18.89 from being applied.

The legal framework caps price adjustments at 5 % per two-month review, so the new ceiling stays within that bound. Since the start of 2026 the bottle’s price has moved from €15.58 in January to €16.35 in March, fell to €15.39 in May, jumped to €17.83 in July and now reaches €18.84, a rise of more than 22 % in four months. The ceiling applies to regulated bottles between 8 kg and 20 kg, while lighter containers sold by companies such as Repsol and Cepsa are not subject to the same controls. The next review is scheduled for November.
