Spain's far-right España 2000 launches vigilante patrols in Valencia

In Valencia, the far-right party España 2000, headed by lawyer and security entrepreneur José Luis Roberto Navarro, is organizing a civilian patrol called the “Angels of the Night.” The initiative is hidden behind the NGO Hogar Social Patriota María Luisa Navarro, named after Roberto’s mother, and is coordinated from a headquarters near the La Malvarrosa district. Six-person squads, trained in martial arts and composed largely of anti-immigration activists, will patrol the seaside area and later the city centre, carrying only whistles and adhering to a conduct code to avoid abuses.

Roberto says the patrols will work with police, detaining perpetrators until authorities arrive and distributing safety leaflets to tourists. Former National Police chief Ricardo Ferris, dismissed after linking immigration to crime, will oversee the project and act as the “eyes and ears” of law enforcement. The operation is funded in part by Roberto’s private security firm, which earned €8.4 million in 2024 and holds several public contracts. The group also runs self-defence workshops that have attracted active-duty security personnel and military members.
