Spain's SETT launches major fund to boost global audiovisual companies
The state-backed SETT fund is channeling substantial capital into Spanish film, TV, gaming and tech firms, sparking matching private investment.
Spain’s Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) is deploying a large public fund to invest in companies across the film, television, video-game and new-technology sectors, prompting private investors to match the capital. Unlike traditional film subsidies, SETT takes equity stakes in firms for up to a decade, seeking to build internationally competitive audiovisual businesses. To date, the fund has backed animation leaders, emerging production studios, post-production hubs and a vertically integrated distributor, with partners including Aurora Media Inversiones, Culture CAP7 and Moby Dick Film Capital.
The financing comes from the EU’s Next Generation programme and is part of Spain’s post-COVID recovery plan. SETT’s model focuses on industry-wide support, equity investment, and long-term public-private partnerships, aiming to shift Spain from a filming destination to a creator of globally owned content and technology.
Why it matters
The fund could reshape Spain’s media landscape, creating jobs and boosting exportable content worldwide.
