Spain's top court accepts police union challenge to Ceuta migrant camp

The Audiencia Nacional has admitted the administrative lawsuit launched by the Sindicato Unificado de Policía (SUP) contesting the Ministry of Transport's decision to permit an immigrant reception camp in the port of Ceuta. The union points out that the Ceuta Port Authority initially refused the location, deeming it incompatible with regular port activity. After the court dismissed an urgent request to halt the installation, it instructed the ministry to provide the complete administrative dossier within an irrevocable twenty-day deadline, opening the way for a full trial.

Although Puertos del Estado later issued a positive assessment, it warned that the facility could raise risks for critical infrastructure and port operations, and the transport resolution even asked the Interior Ministry for additional security resources. With the camp now operational, the SUP says it will demand access to risk-evaluation reports, protocols, personnel levels and security equipment to safeguard police officers working in the sensitive port environment.
