Spain's women's basketball team briefly evacuated after hotel fire alarm at World Cup
During the Berlin World Cup, the Spanish women's basketball squad was forced out of their hotel early Sunday night when a fire alarm triggered a rapid response by firefighters.
In the early hours of Sunday, a fire alarm activated at the hotel housing the Spanish women's basketball team during the Berlin World Cup, leading to a swift evacuation. Players, including Belgium’s Elise Ramette and Australia’s Stephanie Talbot, shared Instagram clips of the team gathered on the street with police presence after 02:00 local time. Firefighters responded promptly, inspected the building and, finding no danger, permitted the athletes to return to their rooms within a short period.
The United States squad, lodged in a different hotel, experienced no disruption. The incident came as Spain prepares for its group-stage clash with Japan, a match that could determine its advancement to the knockout round. Officials noted that the alarm was a false trigger and no injuries were reported.
