Spanish anti-corruption unit cleared to broaden probe of businessman and health executive

Spain's Central Operational Unit (UCO) has been authorized to expand its investigation of entrepreneur Alberto González Amador and Quirón senior executive Fernando Camino.

A Madrid provincial court granted the UCO permission to deepen the inquiry into alleged corruption involving Alberto González Amador and Fernando Camino. The judge had previously limited the probe to the suspects' bank accounts. The new order allows investigators to also examine tax and social-security records. The decision follows objections from all parties to the earlier restriction.

Why it matters

The expanded probe could uncover deeper corruption links between business and healthcare sectors in Spain.
