Spanish doctors plan indefinite strike in October to oppose new health statute
The Confederación de Sindicatos Médicos announced a permanent, open-ended strike starting in October to protest the recently approved Estatuto Marco.
Following the Ministry of Health's second-round approval of the Estatuto Marco, the Confederación de Sindicatos Médicos declared that physicians will launch a permanent, indefinite strike in October. The union described this as a new phase aimed at heightening pressure and expanding protest methods. Coordination with other medical unions—including Madrid's Amyts, Catalonia's Metges, and Galicia's O´mega—remains a priority, and no final start date has been confirmed.
Víctor Pedrera, the CESM secretary-general, indicated that a committee meeting scheduled for the upcoming Thursday should clarify the timeline. The strike follows renewed mobilizations after the summer break, signaling a continued escalation in the doctors' campaign.
