Spanish Exchange Student Killed in Morelos, Authorities Open Feminicide Investigation
A 21-year-old Spanish exchange student was fatally attacked in Cuautla, Morelos, and the case is being treated as a possible femicide.
Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, 21, from the University of Granada, was on an academic exchange at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos when she was attacked outside Cuautla’s Casa de la Cultura on Saturday night. The assault happened during the National Medicinal Plant Festival; she called for help but died before emergency services could intervene. State prosecutor Fernando Blumenkron announced the investigation will follow femicide procedures, though details of the assailant remain unknown.
Governor Margarita González Saravia confirmed that state officials have reached out to the Consulado de España en México to support the victim’s relatives. The local cultural center labeled the episode as a possible armed robbery, while the university has urged a swift, gender-sensitive investigation.
