Spanish government speeds up Ceuta port facilities to house migrant arrivals
The government is fast-tracking two new structures on Ceuta’s Poniente dock to shelter migrants, while the autonomous city urges urgent environmental action.
In Ceuta, authorities are accelerating the construction of two provisional facilities on the Poniente dock to provide accommodation for migrants who have been camping on the Trampolín beach. The Ministry of Inclusion, Security and Migration carried out a humanitarian operation that voluntarily transferred 864 individuals from the Loma Colmenar area, with the assistance of security forces. Additional plans aim to create a temporary space for more than 300 women and their children on the plaza of the Sidi Embarek mosque.
The regional government has formally requested urgent environmental measures from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, citing waste buildup, habitat disruption and fire risk. It seeks the permanent removal of illegal settlements on the beach and other coastal zones, and asks for increased SEPRONA patrols to protect the coastline and biodiversity.
