Spanish police allege Moroccan officials coordinated mass migrant crossing into Ceuta

Spain’s National Police have filed a detailed report with Judge María Tardón accusing agents of Morocco’s Alawite regime of planning the large-scale migrant surge into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on July 30-31. According to the dossier, uniformed Moroccan gendarmes were present in the border town of Castillejos, while covert Moroccan officials allegedly instructed them on steering migrants toward the fence and the surrounding sea, enabling roughly 80,000 illegal crossings.

The police argue the maneuver was intended to undermine Spanish control of Ceuta and the nearby city of Melilla. The claim runs counter to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s narrative, which has pointed to various external actors and even “ultra-right” forces. Opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo used the report to question Sánchez’s ability to safeguard national security. The European External Action Service confirmed it lacks evidence that the incident was driven by foreign state-sponsored disinformation.
