Spanish police raid Ceuta NGO suspected of supplying corrosive weapons to migrants
The Guardia Civil searched the Ceuta office of the NGO No Name Kitchen after accusations it provided corrosive material to recent migrant attackers, detaining three people.
The Guardia Civil executed a search of the Ceuta premises of the non-governmental organization No Name Kitchen after it was linked to the distribution of corrosive substances to migrants who attacked the city at the end of July. The raid, mandated by the Juzgado de Instrucción number 3, led to the detention of three suspects. Meanwhile, a parallel probe ordered by Juzgado number 6 remains open after Hazte Oír filed a complaint alleging similar wrongdoing.
Officials have documented the presence of pepper spray, bladed weapons and homemade devices among the illegal migrants still in Ceuta, contributing to a wave of violence that has left at least 11 military personnel wounded, several of them operated on, and has seen repeated assaults on police and civil guards. In one recent incident, a migrant released a can of pepper spray inside a bus transporting detainees to a temporary holding centre. No Name Kitchen describes itself as an independent group working with refugees in the Balkans and Ceuta and claims to expose human-rights violations at EU borders.
