Spanish startup Liux readies sustainable microcar for European launch
Liux has obtained EU-wide approval for its eco-focused microcar, the Liux Big, and plans to start sales early next year.
Spanish EV startup Liux announced that its microcar, the Liux Big, has cleared European homologation and will reach customers in the first half of next year. The vehicle features a lightweight linen-based biocomposite body, rechargeable batteries that can be powered by solar energy, and a 260-liter trunk, offering a greener alternative to Chinese-made city cars. Production will be carried out at three facilities in Spain, including a lean-style plant in Azuqueca de Henares, with capacity projected to hit 20,000 cars per year by 2030.
More than 7,500 people have joined a free waiting list, primarily older urban residents who may use the car as a secondary vehicle. The price is slated to be under €18,000 before any subsidies, and Liux is open to partnerships for fleet sales and future autonomous features. Founders Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros and David Sancho stress circularity and durability, drawing on prior work with recycled-material vehicles and a hybrid supercar.

It introduces a greener, affordable city car that could shift European micro-car markets away from Chinese imports.
