Specsavers resumes £12 million dividend to founders after profit surge
Specsavers transferred £12 million to its founder-run parent company after pre-tax profit rose by more than a quarter, while paying £258 million to its franchise partners.
Specsavers announced that it has paid a £12 million dividend to its parent, Specsavers International Healthcare Limited, which is owned by founders Doug and Mary Perkins, after reporting a 25% rise in pre-tax profit to £429.7 million for the year to February. Sales grew 7% to £4.3 billion, and the firm distributed almost £258 million to its independent shop partners, an increase from £239 million the year before. The dividend to the Guernsey-based parent was halted the previous year because of economic and political uncertainty and a major expansion programme, with only about £15 million paid in the two years before that.
A spokesperson said the resumption at historic levels shows confidence while the company continues to invest in long-term growth and customer value. Specsavers highlighted cost-control measures, plans to absorb inflation where possible, and ongoing upgrades to its online platform. The Perkins couple, whose combined wealth is estimated at £1.4 billion, founded the chain in 1983.
Why it matters
The payout signals Specsavers' financial strength and its ability to reward both founders and franchisees amid inflationary pressures.
