Spotify launches podcast Memberships, letting creators charge for exclusive perks
Spotify has begun rolling out a new Memberships feature in 34 regions, enabling podcasters to sell bonus content, early episodes and fewer ads directly to listeners.
Spotify is introducing a Memberships subscription option for podcasters, now live in 34 regions. Creators can design tiered plans that include extra episodes, early releases, reduced advertising and other exclusive perks, and they keep 90% of the income. Users can join a membership directly from a podcast’s Spotify page with a simple tap and instantly receive the promised benefits.
The platform supplies tools for audience analysis, targeted promotions, free trials, and community engagement like member badges and welcome clips. To qualify, podcasts must be hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone and have at least 100 consumption hours, 100 listeners or viewers, and three published episodes. The feature complements existing revenue streams such as ads and the Spotify Partner Program and offers an Open Access path for creators already using other subscription services.
Why it matters
It gives podcasters a new, direct revenue stream and more control over monetizing exclusive content.
