Spotify pulls 50 million AI-generated songs from its recommendation engine
Spotify announced it has excluded 50 million AI-created tracks from its recommendation algorithms, though the songs remain on the platform.
Spotify disclosed that 50 million AI-generated songs have been taken out of its recommendation system as part of a broader crackdown on low-quality, algorithm-produced music. The tracks are still searchable on the service, but they no longer appear in curated or algorithmic playlists. This move builds on a prior purge of over 75 million tracks flagged as spam, which were removed from the catalog altogether.
Additional measures include labeling AI-Persona profiles, which are excluded from recommendations unless followed, and a program allowing artists to screen AI-generated songs that use their names. Spotify noted that AI-made songs are far less likely to reach the 1,000-stream threshold needed for royalties. The company emphasized that the fight against AI spam is ongoing as the technology evolves.
