Spotify started a worldwide rollout of its audiobook offering, now covering more than 180 markets and reaching an estimated 750 million users. The service will provide around 350,000 titles in over 120 languages, and in Spain users can choose from more than 45,000 Spanish-language books. Subscribers with a Premium plan can listen to up to 12 hours of audiobooks in countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway and Peru, while a standalone Audiobook+ subscription grants a 15-hour limit or the option to buy single titles.
The company works with more than 300 publishers, among them Planeta and Mondadori, to grow its catalogue. Since its launch last year, Audiobook+ has attracted over 1 million subscribers and generated more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue. Recent features include a “Page Match” tool, AI-driven narration from ElevenLabs, and experimental physical book sales in the U.S. and the U.K.
Why it matters
The expansion positions Spotify as a major competitor in the global audiobook market, offering users a unified music and book platform.
