Spotify to Mark AI-Generated Artists with New Transparency Badge

Spotify will start labeling artist accounts that are created by artificial intelligence, adding a “AI Persona” badge for transparency.

In response to the growing presence of generative-AI music, Spotify announced a new labeling system that will identify non-human artist accounts. Beginning August 11, creators can voluntarily mark their profiles as AI Personas via the Spotify for Artists interface. Simultaneously, Spotify will employ a combination of manual checks and automated analysis to assign a Likely AI Persona badge to accounts it suspects are AI-generated.

Those flagged will receive a notification and can contest the label through an appeal process. The AI Persona badge will be displayed on mobile artist pages, in search listings, and alongside tracks in playlists starting in mid-September. By default, music from these labeled accounts will be omitted from the service’s personalized recommendation algorithms. The move reflects Spotify’s dual strategy of both detecting AI content and integrating generative AI tools into its platform.

Why it matters

It helps listeners know when music is created by AI, protecting transparency and user trust.
