Sri Lanka crushes Malaysia by 86 runs to reach Asian Games semi-finals
Malaysia were beaten by Sri Lanka by 86 runs in the women's T20 quarter-final at the Asian Games, ending their tournament.
The women's cricket quarter-final of the Asian Games took place at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, where Sri Lanka posted 160 runs for four wickets in their 20 overs. Malaysia could only manage 74 runs for seven wickets from their full allotment, resulting in an 86-run defeat. Chamari Athapaththu led Sri Lanka with a rapid 63, supported by Kaveesha Dilhari’s 44, and the bowlers each claimed two wickets.
Malaysia’s top scorers were Winifred Anne Duraisingam with 28 and Mahirah Izzati Ismail with 24, while Nurin Imanina took three wickets. The victory advances Sri Lanka to a semi-final clash with two-time gold medallist Pakistan on September 20. Malaysia’s team manager V. Vijayalingam said the experience against a strong side will benefit the players in future tournaments.
