St Kilda demands Geelong's first-round pick for ruckman Rowan Marshall

St Kilda has set a price of Geelong’s first-round draft pick and a player for contracted ruckman Rowan Marshall, who is nearing 31.

St Kilda has placed a steep price on contracted ruckman Rowan Marshall, seeking Geelong’s first-round draft pick at 14 plus a player in any trade. The club previously missed a deal when Tom De Koning arrived, and now insists on the high valuation, with footy boss Lenny Hayes emphasizing Marshall’s importance. No player has been identified to accompany the pick, after an earlier unsuccessful bid for Lawson Humphries.

The proposal surpasses recent ruck transactions, including Brodie Grundy’s shared-contract move and Jordan Dawson’s 2022 trade. Meanwhile, other trade talks involve Gryan Miers, who completed a medical with West Coast as a precaution, and Jack Viney, who also underwent a medical at Essendon while weighing his future. Hawthorn’s Aiden Schubert is considering a move that could free up Ben King, adding further complexity to the AFL trade period.

Why it matters

The deal could reshape draft strategies and player movement during the AFL trade window.
