Stakeholders push two-stage NEET and permanent exam body to overhaul India's entrance tests
Student groups and coaching bodies have submitted proposals for a two-stage NEET, a standing exam authority and independent audits to the High-Powered Task Force on public exam reforms.
In response to the High-Powered Task Force on public examination reforms, three stakeholder groups - ABVP, United Doctors Front and Educators Federation of India - have put forward detailed recommendations. Central among them is a two-stage NEET model, with an offline prelim and a secured single-day mains, and the possibility of conducting the exam twice a year. They also advocate creating a permanent statutory exam authority equipped with dedicated cyber-security and forensic divisions.
Additional measures include encrypted transmission of papers, GPS-tracked custody, tamper-evident packaging and regular independent security audits. The groups propose a separate National Assessment Integrity and Standards Council to set technical standards and oversee auditors. All proposals seek to enhance the robustness, transparency and fairness of India's high-stakes entrance examinations.
