Stan Kroenke's KSE to Acquire Controlling Stake in Los Angeles Angels
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has signed a definitive agreement to purchase a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno, with the deal slated to close in the first quarter of 2027 pending MLB approval.
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment announced a definitive agreement to buy a controlling share of the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno and his family, with the closing expected in the first quarter of 2027 subject to standard conditions and MLB approval. The sale concludes Moreno's 23-year stewardship of the club, a tenure that began after he purchased the team from The Walt Disney Company in 2003. KSE, already the owner of the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Mammoth and Arsenal Football Club, will incorporate the Angels into its global sports holdings.
The deal expands KSE’s presence in Southern California, linking the Angels’ Angel Stadium in Anaheim with the Rams’ SoFi Stadium and the surrounding Hollywood Park district in Inglewood. Both franchises share a history of playing at Anaheim Stadium from 1980 to 1994 before the Rams moved to St. Louis. The acquisition awaits the customary closing conditions and Major League Baseball’s approval before KSE can assume control.
Why it matters
The purchase gives Kroenke a year-round foothold in Southern California's lucrative sports market and adds an MLB franchise to his multi-league portfolio.
