Standard Vaslui coach filmed holding a 13-year-old's neck during match in Huși

A video shows Standard Vaslui coach Mihăiță Lungu gripping a 13-year-old player's neck during a Friday evening game in Huși, prompting a police investigation.

During a match in Huși, Standard Vaslui coach Mihăiță Lungu was recorded placing his hand around the neck of a 13-year-old player. Police in Huși opened a criminal file to examine whether the act constitutes assault or other violence. The Vaslui County Football Association (AJF Vaslui) has self-referred the case to its Ethics and Discipline Commission, labeling the behavior as unacceptable.

Coach Lungu insists the photo was taken from an angle that misrepresents the situation and that he only called the boy aside for guidance. Club president Emil Dorin also rejected the allegations, describing the interaction as a harmless, playful gesture toward his nephew, who is a regular team member.

Why it matters

The case raises concerns about safeguarding minors in youth sports and the accountability of coaches.
