Star Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck publicly requests trade ahead of camp

Connor Hellebuyck, the three-time Vezina Trophy winner and U.S. Olympian, announced via his representative Ray Petkau that he has asked the Winnipeg Jets to trade him, a request made several months earlier. He said he tried to keep the matter private while giving the club time to explore options, but the approaching training camp—starting in roughly three weeks—prompted a public disclosure. Hellebuyck, 33, expressed that moving on is best for his family and hopes for a swift resolution.

General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff confirmed Hellebuyck’s openness about his desire for a change and reiterated respect for his contributions, yet provided no further update. The veteran goalie, who earned MVP honors for the 2024-25 season and backstopped the United States to Olympic gold, is under an eight-year, $59.5 million extension that runs through 2031 with a cap hit of $8.5 million. He thanked Jets fans for their support throughout his career in Winnipeg.
