State Farm begins distributing $5 billion in dividend checks to eligible auto policyholders

State Farm has started mailing dividend checks to qualifying customers, with over 7.2 million payments already sent and another 3.8 million due this week.

State Farm is distributing a historic $5 billion dividend to auto-insurance customers who held policies throughout 2025, covering roughly 49 million vehicles. To date, more than 7.2 million checks have been mailed, and an additional 3.8 million are slated for dispatch this week, according to spokesperson Steve Baldwin. Eligible policyholders receive an email from a no-reply address with a link to a portal where they can select digital payment methods such as Zelle, Venmo, or PayPal, or opt for a mailed check; those without an email on file automatically receive a check.

The average refund is about $100 per vehicle, but the exact amount depends on a percentage of the premium paid, ranging from 4 % to 10 % by state. Payments are being rolled out in waves across states, a process that will extend over several months. Customers can find more information at sfdividend.com or call the provided hotline.

Why it matters

The payout returns a portion of premiums to millions of drivers, affecting household finances and illustrating insurer profit sharing.
