Stefanik and Gottheimer launch bipartisan caucus to fight campus antisemitism

Republican Representative Elise Stefanik and Democratic Representative Josh Gottheimer introduced a bipartisan congressional caucus called the Combating Antisemitism on College Campuses Caucus. The announcement came during a trip to Vanderbilt University, where they joined six campus leaders for a discussion on how to curb Jew-hatred while preserving free speech. Gottheimer, who is Jewish, warned that many Jewish students have been harassed and made to feel unwelcome since the Oct. 7 protests.

Stefanik emphasized the need to safeguard American higher education for future generations. The caucus plans to oversee universities, enforce anti-discrimination rules, advocate for federal legislation, and showcase institutions that are successfully addressing the issue. Participants also included representatives from Dartmouth College, the University of Alabama, the University of Kentucky, the University of Texas at Austin and Washington University in St. Louis.
