Cornerback Stephon Gilmore will sign a one-day contract on Friday to end his career as a New England Patriot.
Stephon Gilmore, a five-time Pro Bowl cornerback, will sign a ceremonial one-day contract with the New England Patriots on Friday, officially retiring as a member of the franchise. Gilmore, who posted his retirement notice on Instagram after finishing the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, first arrived in Foxborough as a free agent in 2017 after five seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He quickly became a defensive standout, earning AP All-Pro recognition in 2018 and 2019 and making the decisive interception in the Patriots’ 13-3 Super Bowl victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
In 2019 he was named the team’s first Defensive Player of the Year, leading the league with six interceptions. Over a 13-year career, Gilmore also played for the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys and Vikings, finishing with 32 interceptions and 149 pass breakups.
