Sterling says he would refuse a short-notice fight with Jean Silva

Aljamain Sterling explained on his podcast that he would decline a last-minute bout against Jean Silva at Noche UFC, citing lack of preparation.

During a recent podcast, Aljamain Sterling addressed rumors of a possible matchup with Jean Silva at the Noche UFC event on September 12. He said he would look the matchmakers in the eye and refuse, because he is currently recovering from travel to Serbia and Albania and would struggle to last five rounds on short notice. Sterling indicated he might consider a three-round fight if the pay were high enough, but would rather wait for a full camp and a later date against Silva.

He also expressed interest in fighting the winner of the Aaron Pico versus Arnold Allen bout at UFC 333, preferring a well-known opponent. While he has been busy promoting his rum company, he has paused those duties to focus on training. Sterling concluded that two more weeks would allow him to comfortably handle three rounds, and four weeks would get him ready for five-round distance.

Why it matters

Fans and promoters need to know Sterling's availability and conditions for future fights.
