Steve Hilton pushes tax cuts and housing plan while denouncing offshore wind at CA town hall

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Steve Hilton outlined a tax-cut and housing agenda, criticized offshore wind projects and noted a few disagreements with Donald Trump during a Los Angeles town hall.

During a livestreamed town hall in Los Angeles, Republican candidate Steve Hilton detailed a platform centered on tax relief, deregulation and a massive housing push he calls "Califordable." The proposal would scrap income taxes for Californians earning $150,000 or less, loosen oil and clean-energy mandates, and launch ten new cities to increase single-family home construction while capping fees on new builds. Hilton also attacked offshore wind projects as an "abomination" and aligned with Donald Trump’s stance, though he cited disagreements over federal cuts to the University of California and border-security policies.

He blamed Democratic control for the state's cost-of-living crisis and said he would cut the budget by ending high-speed rail funding, reducing agency staff by five percent and targeting Medicaid fraud, aiming to save roughly $25 billion annually. Hilton promised to end state-funded health care for undocumented immigrants and to scale back air-quality and coastal-regulation agencies, while asserting he could work pragmatically with the Democratic-controlled legislature.

Why it matters

Hilton's proposals could reshape California's tax, housing and energy policies if he wins the governorship.
